It's time to be freed from your food, weight, and body image difficulties and to replace them with self-kindness, self-care, and sustainable wellness and well-being!

I started this Healthier Perspective project because I believe we need an alternative to measuring our worth by the number on the scale, or by our clothing size, or for that matter, by how we look in the mirror.


The problem isn’t diets as much as “diet culture”. Diet culture insists that there’s nothing more important than being slim; if we’re not slim, our lives better revolve around trying to lose weight. And if we are slim, we better make sure we stay that way. In diet culture, being slim is a moral imperative.

Diet culture holds us back by keeping us ashamed, hungry, unfulfilled, and preoccupied with looking at our bodies rather than living in our bodies. It diverts our attention from more important things, isolates us, and wastes our time and energy. Diet culture keeps us busy trying to shrink our bodies, but instead, shrinks our lives.


Diet culture afflicts us in different ways. Many people, especially women, have been marginalized based on size and appearance, and require social justice and cultural enlightenment. Some have been damaged by emotional and eating disorders, and require treatment. Others are suffering on the inside in a way that’s invisible on the outside, and deserve compassion, or have watched the suffering of those they care for, and need support. And even those few who haven’t yet been impacted by a culture that values youth, slenderness and conventional beauty over all else are on borrowed time. We all need kindness and understanding, because no one is immune.

I sure wasn’t. I bought into diet culture for decades, it was almost impossible not to; but I’m no longer willing to accept that I need to spend my valuable time and energy, or sacrifice my sense of self-worth and potential, to pursue the unsustainable and meaningless goal of being as tiny as I can be. This is my life and my body, and I have better things to do with it.


Now I’m on a mission to help you too. Whether you want to lose weight or not, what I want for you is a clearer, healthier and true perspective, where you understand that the size of your body isn’t even nearly as important as… well, pretty much anything else about you.

I share my own thoughts on my blog, because this is my challenge too. Some days are easier than others. And I assembled a list of helpful books and resources that you can find here.

I’ll also be sharing inspirational and educational material from a growing community of trailblazers who are fiercely and non-apologetically leading the way for us to live fully – beyond diet culture.


I can’t guarantee that you won’t be triggered by any of the material I share with you – this page and blog are designed to be a non-judgmental, inclusive space, but it may not always be a safe space, because I explore delicate territory. I promise to offer resources to help you become more resilient, and I’ll do my best to strengthen your belief in your own worth, so you can live a life that’s inoculated against the damage that can be caused by diet culture’s unfair, unattainable, and unsustainable standards. Frankly, I’d rather create a strong and resilient space than a safe space, because when we’re strong and resilient, we can work together to break new ground and explore the territory beyond diet culture.

With that in mind, it’s important for you to know that unlike many in the non-diet community, I don’t define all attempts at weight loss as necessarily futile, disordered, or even problematic. If you want to lose weight, you’re welcome here. If you don’t, you’re welcome here. We are all traveling our own journeys, we’re all doing the best we can, and I’m here to meet you wherever you are.

I’m not going to tell you that you have to love the way your body looks. If you do, that’s great, but it’s not necessary. Instead, I’m going to offer you tools to value yourself beyond how your body looks, and support you in caring for your body, mind and spirit. Diet culture overemphasizes the importance of how much we weigh and how we look, but I’d like to help you find a healthier perspective, where even if you are hoping to make changes that will show up on the scale or in the mirror, your life doesn’t revolve around it.

The blog offers inspiration, education, tools, techniques, practices, support and even a little humor for people whose lives are impacted by diet culture, but is not designed to replace professional treatment for eating disorders or mental illness.

I commit to keeping it weight neutral, non-judgmental, and inclusive, and in the spirit of inclusiveness, free from dogma and hate. And your participation is welcome!
